News and Democracy – a year in review & what’s next

An audience of over 50 people attended the IIC Australian chapter’s last event for 2019. Kindly hosted by Bird & Bird, the event featured speakers who reviewed and discussed some of the major developments in media and communications laws that have played out during the year. The event also featured Bird & Bird partner, Thomas Jones, who provided a round-up of the year in technology.
Facilitated by Bird & Bird Partner Sophie Dawson, the evening featured a guest panel including Lesley Power, General Counsel at Special Broadcasting Service, Barbara McDonald – Professor at University of Sydney Law School, Fellow at the Australian Academy of Law and Rachel Launders – General Counsel and Company Secretary at Nine Entertainment Co.
Event guests were also given an insight into international perspectives from via a video snapshot with introductory remarks by IIC President Chris Chapman.
